About Residence Visa:

You can get your residence visa and live in the UAE legally.

A residence visa or permit is basically a document that proves an expat is allowed to stay in any emirate of the country for a set amount of time, according to the UAE's immigration rules. The government sets various conditions for granting residency, like for business, investing, visiting, or studying, and these conditions determine the type and duration of the visa.

FAQs

1. Can I work in the UAE on a residence visa?

A UAE residence visa alone does not authorise you to work. To legally work in the UAE, you also need a valid work permit (labour card) issued by MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation). Your employment residence visa and work permit are typically processed together when you are sponsored by a company. Business owners and investors with a trade license in their name are permitted to work under their investor/partner visa without a separate work permit.

2. What is the validity of a UAE residence visa?

Most UAE residence visas are issued for either 2 years or 3 years, depending on the visa type and sponsorship. Employment visas issued by most free zones and mainland companies are typically valid for 2–3 years. Golden Visas are issued for 5 or 10 years. All residence visas must be renewed before expiry. If you exit the UAE for more than 6 consecutive months while holding a standard residence visa, it will be automatically cancelled — except for Golden Visa holders, who are exempt from this rule.

3. Can I sponsor my family on a UAE residence visa?

Yes. UAE residents can sponsor their spouse and children (up to age 18, or age 21–25 for full-time students) on a dependent/family residence visa. Male residents must generally earn a minimum salary of AED 4,000 per month (or AED 3,000 + accommodation provided). Female residents in professional roles can also sponsor their husbands and children with no minimum salary requirement in many cases. Parents can also be sponsored, subject to additional conditions and a higher salary threshold

4. What happens if my UAE residence visa expires?

An expired UAE residence visa results in an overstay fine of AED 25 per day, capped after a grace period (typically 30 days is provided after expiry). After 30 days of overstay, additional fines and a travel ban may apply. Dream Global recommends starting the renewal process at least 30 days before your visa expiry date. Our team will send you a reminder and manage the renewal end-to-end.

5. Do I need to be in Dubai to apply for a UAE residence visa?

Not necessarily. If you are outside the UAE, Dream Global can apply for your entry permit remotely once we receive your documents. You then enter the UAE on your approved entry permit and complete the medical, Emirates ID, and visa stamping steps in Dubai. If you are already inside the UAE on a valid visit visa or tourist visa, your status can be changed to a residence visa without exiting the country.
